Marquis: A Picaresque Romp
Marquis was an invited exhibition that situated the work.group’s unbuilt projects in the context of a social history. Viewed from the perspective of wandering rogues in a time of civil unrest, the projects were overtaken, appropriated, and in one case, destroyed. This narrative served as the draft of an allegorical charter for our collaborative architectural practice. The obscure and irreverent character of the artifacts allowed observers to inhabit the work and judge its meaning and importance on their own terms. At a larger scale, it recognized that the work of the architect is not eternal and welcomed the reshaping intrusion of the natural world and the changing needs of its population.
