the work.group the terms “pirate” and “space” were not meant to instigate moves that would facilitate role play; the intention was to posit some likely scenarios enjoyed by the client. should this anticipation, now that it is out there, inform the fort with allegorical portholes? i reckon that it should not; does this leave us with an anonymous box, a pre-fab from off the rack, or pile of lumber placed a clearing in the trees? if i were proposing, say, a federal courthouse, it is doubtful that i would cover it in chain link, á la guantanamo bay, to tell the story of the cases or to nudge the judges in the “right” direction. as a proponent of the perpetual conflict of ideas, should i look for a fort/courthouse/dwp station that means nothing, or for a fort that carries ideas that are mine now but will be counted/banned in the future? i hope the new side menus are drumming up some work.

it is for the best that .mil did not have the vision to choose our memorial, as, when they projekt was taken out of our hands and given to a committee, we would have had to see a horrible font plastered across our work. i hope the 184 victims don’t mind having a personal memorial on which people put their asses.

it takes a lot of money to look this cheap. -dolly parton

almost two weeks after our move, i think we have exhausted almost all of the minor tweaks we cooked up, most of which would have passed unnoticed by the users. here is an incomplete list of recent changes. more can be found in this entry. a list of ideas for the site follows; feel free to add your own ideas or strike out others.

new changes:

  • updated links in news menu
  • reading list in worker profiles (optional)
  • removed excess boxes in projekts menus
  • format of comment author + link unified
  • search function for all projekts
  • imported pentagon
  • all mail not addressed to worker is trashed
  • site rebuilds every six (6) hours
  • new page for each projekt’s archive + corresponding .css
  • power to leave comment from toggling or individual entry page
  • removed preview button; added erase button
  • design of footers for all projetks unified

questions on what should be done:

  • apply .css to the pentagon papers
  • there is a plethora of images in pgon,
should we revive them in gallery format?
  • i think e2 should remain as projekt separate from ex_nihilo, as, rather than being a continuation, ex_nihilo is a report on, and uncovering of, e2
  • perhaps e2 should be proto_ex_nihilo,
    or ex_nihilo could be meta-e2
  • regardless of the name – we don’t need to change them – the question i suppose should be what kind of presentation e2 should have. perhaps the appropriate texts could be added -in or out of MT- to e2, and the work that did not make the dossier can be excised from the ex page.
  • have an ‘edit’ link in each post?
  • inline comment entry (ex.news) vs. pop-up comment entry (ex.projekts) for individual pages? pop-up is less on-the-fly, but inline is unattractive.

future:

  • title images in projekts given uniform names
  • include title images in each projekt archive
  • clean up .css for archives for consistency
  • include some info about WRK.GRP on front page?
  • more features in commenting, such as quoting/acronyms
  • news search
  • custom form buttons
  • something wiki somewhere
  • workers’ lounge in news
  • the links in the flash galleries of pentagon are outdated
  • menu bar in projekt individual entries
  • previous comments in projekt popups, w/ quote buttons
  • compare comment/blockquote colours
  • automated notification of posts(?)

edited 2008.12.12 to remove broken link.

How would you feel about having a more accessible worker’s lounge? Maybe an icon on the index.shtml?

the work.group are you seeing this as a scalar play on something like a space ship or a pirate ship in which the child feels that he has a personal pan pizza version of the real thing, or are you seeking a more thematic analogue in which the space / object is imbued with a character that evokes those sources yet becomes a new thing that the child can apply his whims to. i would prefer the latter, both from a concern about the effect of pedantic playtime situations and my own desires to investigate open works.

“do we have to play pirates again!?! i’m going home, pussy.” -your nephew’s friend

do you mind if i ask what our scope of work / client / schedule is on this job?

the project includes a recreational facility, consisting of one structure, multiple structures, or a network. it is part of a complex that includes one (1) existing single family home. the home is not part of the scope, and should only be considered in terms of noise adjacency and views. the client would prefer the least interaction between the two facilities.

the primary client is a male, aged 2-8 years old; there are two (2) sponsors, a male and female both in their early 30′s, who will provide oversight concerning issues of security and safety. the client will likely use this facility both alone and with a few members of his peer group. the facility should not be used in the absence of the client.

construction would begin in the spring of 2005. the clients are unaware of this project at this time.

take out.

jc! do you have anything to work on?

i reckon we can invent something to work on; or we can find another competition or a new client. however, our conversations of late have made me aware that you have more interest in pursuing bourgeois domesticity than in shattering conventional myths of context, construction, landscape, memory, phenomena, representation, society, the urban, and the non-urban.
