Iranian officials aborted Khomeini’s first funeral, after a large crowd stormed the funeral procession, nearly destroying Khomeini’s wooden coffin in order to get a last glimpse of his body. At one point, Khomeini’s body actually almost fell to the ground, as the crowd attempted to grab pieces of the death shroud.

According to Fulci, the ending of The Beyond is not a happy ending but at the same time not an unhappy one. The other-dimensional realm that the main characters find themselves trapped in at the end is, according to Fulci, a refuge of sorts that exists outside of time and space. Some fans, citing the fact that Fulci was a known atheist, have taken the notion that the realm is the afterworld seen through the eyes of an atheist.

that is bs; the ending is horrifying!
there is an error in the wikipedia entry. it claims that the presence of the ‘blind girl’ in the ending proves that it is the afterlife, i guess because david warbeck wasted her. however!!! the blind ‘girl’ at the end who is with david warbeck is clearly catriona maccoll, not the red-haired girl.
my impression was that everyone went blind upon entering that ‘afterlife’? this is one of the reasons why i found it so scary.
i was quoting that guy, but i didn’t think falling from the scaffolding was that scary. i was thinking about the girl’s eyes appearing on the bridge, and the shot when the couple runs in slow motion to the camera, and you see their blank eyes. the idea of wandering blind, in eternity, hearing scary noises constantly and not knowing what was causing them disturbs me. i’d probably stab my eardrums, if i could find an icepick in the afterlife.
