Event to Program generator:
1. The following events took place in an alternate timeline in which Roald Dahl sold British coastal defence secrets during WWII.
2. The following events took place in an alternate timeline in which the original PS Waverley entered a Druid transwarp conduit and returned to Earth in 2378.
3. The following events took place in an alternate timeline in which Hans Price was displaced out of time.

it goes w/ out saying that this won’t be ‘drawn or designed’. aren’t we headed towards another masturbatory exercise in wordsmithery?
is the list sequential? ie, is hans price appearing in our era - or after 2738? or is he from the year 2525 - transported to 1865?
file under timeline 1:
belgian gates: after revelations of the declassified weapons testing program at weston-super-mare defences are installed in this non-strategic stretch of coast.
(radio) cellar: disillusioned with his role in the interment of germans in africa dahl requests an administrative position in weston-super-mare where he transmits information to the axis contacts he made during his deployment.
i dont think the development here needs to be chronological. you said you couldnt work on anything for a couple of months so i thought it would be good to get some masturbation out of the way first. i also think this could be fairly explicit in terms of what it intends to generate, see above.
file under timeline 1:
sweets silo: during axis occupation of southwest great britain dahl stockpiles cadbury chocolate on birnbeck island.
high tide u-boat proving grounds and pens: remote base for kriegsmarine design time and depth trials selected for its significant tidal movement.
invasive species carpet: heracleum mantegazzianum (giant hogweed) and japanese knotweed overrun the island by growing down the rotten surface of the pier after the 1972 exodus.
file under timeline 2:
void: the waverley opened a gateway in space-time by using the gravity drive, passing outside the known universe and into another dimension thought to be analogous to hell.
cofferdam: the waverley, upon returning to the bristol channel, evacuates the dramatically risen waters on coastal weston-super-mare and birnbeck island in order to resettle.
i dont know if it matters but i have been making some notes about this exercise. i dont necessarily see these things as being the programs we wish to impose on the island. on the contrary, i see our interaction with these things as being similar to our interactions with the architecture in the stations of marquis. that is, we find these things and then do something with them. for the moment these entries (for me) are merely an incubator for some thoughts on the nature of the place based on some reading and misreferencing.
so, arlingtonton for instance, would have had an entry above that said something about the terrorist attacks on the pentagon and subsequent memorial construction. then our work of course would be how to turn that memorial into public baths.
file under timeline 3:
flooded hall: in the early 19th century hans price, aka ‘varelli’ designs a lavish hall on the island known as the varelli palace. when price revisits the palace in 2276 the cellar of the building has a hole in the floor which leads to a water-filled ballroom.
file under timeline 3:
studio (dance academy): in 1516 hans price, aka ‘jakob villinger,’ constructs the ‘house of the whale’ in freiburg. it is burned to the ground in 1944. price builds an hollow structure reminiscent of zum walfisch on birnbeck island in 1516 in order to preserve it from destruction 430 years later.
file under timeline 2:
binary dwellings: symmetrical replicated chambres are provided on the island to keep passengers of the waverley from coming in contact with the versions of themselves that may emerge from alternate portals in the conduit. plans for a third set were scrapped when it was determined that no passengers on the original waverley which sunk in 1940 were chrononauts.

foundation and ruins: dahl has the tempelhaus of hildesheim, germany relocated to the muddy tidal flats of weston-super-mare at the behest of hans price, vorlagenerbauer. it is returned in 1989.
kamikaze tower: seven years after surrender of japan, final island guerrilla immolates himself on pyre in the center of westonzeeplatz. booby traps destroy foundation of tower when inspected upon reclamation of island. memorial to royal marines killed in collapse dedicated 1958.

locks: before leaving on its transtemporal voyage the waverley inaugurates the new tide-defying moorings on birnbeck island.
void: the waverley opened a gateway in space-time by using the gravity drive, passing outside the known universe and into another dimension thought to be analogous to hell.
cofferdam: the waverley, upon returning to the bristol channel, evacuates the dramatically risen waters on coastal weston-super-mare and birnbeck island in order to resettle.
moai: non-humanoid sculptures uncovered by draining of the island and shoreline.

mast chambers: rising waters force temporal stragglers to entomb their dead atop masts offshore.
the tank. Mining begins in preparation for a subterranean hibernation chamber. a lottery determines the 6 passengers to be sealed within the tank. the remaining population quickly divides into ‘sentinels‘ and ‘ravagers‘; the ensuing civil war wipes all human life from the surface level. flightless songbirds from the waverley’s captain’s quarters inherit the land.

rose window: hans price (he who crushes teeth) is summoned to prescribe the format of the transtemporal coduit portal on the west horizon of the birnbeck flats in 4791.
we going to follow our typical trajectory and submit photoshop scribbles and ink stains, backed up by a literary phantasm, or do you think we will have something that the job bosses will find useful?
i was thinking about forming the timeline into a loaf wherein all the programs listed above appear as olives and walnuts; we will represent a wedge that is sliced at 2007 - or 2008/9?. presumably both sides of that wedge lead to the rest of the fantasy (birnbeck 2525).
also, does the button to add a link to comments not work?
i think that both some photoshop vignettes and some plans would be valuable. i like the notion of time as a loaf. i havent really started looking at the scale of any of this stuff in relation to the actual island. i was going to do one more drawing over the collage based on some of the fragments you posted.
if this is an amusement park does it if have any function other than the sculptural shadow of its mythical use, playing into ‘our’ interest in ruins?
i haven’t been to an amusement park since the 1980’s, so my analogies might be incorrect, but i was thinking less about thrill rides like the flying dutchman at six flags and more about something like epcot and/or ‘world of tomorrow’ - where an animatron of roald dahl describes his war crimes to school kids as they float by in a steam boat. perhaps the uk could use the site for the world expo…..2010….
have you been to jamestown? also, i seem to remember there being a flashy new lincoln exhibit in illinois, possibly, that, while ostensibly educational, was criticized for being trivial or disrespectful because it had strobe lights and hip hop playing.
i might be imagining some of this.
tight, my memory still works after two years:
Morning Edition, April 1, 2005 · The new Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield, Ill., brings together authentic artifacts and flashy multimedia installations. Traditionalist curators argue that glitzy technology is inappropriate, but others believe it’s the right approach for the 21st century. The museum is slated to open in April.

i see, when i heard amusement park i guess my mind turned it into a playground with fun spaces to explore and perform rites in.
yes, it should be; don’t they have rides and ‘fun’ things to do at epcot or scitrek(?) (fernbank??), but supposedly for a purpose? birnbeck isn’t where you go to spin around and around to make yourself dizzy and collapse; rather, you crawl into a cave full of razor wire and alien microbes, then emerge and ace your next test in british history.
hmmm, maybe it is more like a 4-h camp.
edit:
we could reuse this for fort 2003
hmm, i was hesitant to be so literal, but i reckon i can add some captions to the previously posted images.
on a side note, i updated the how-to-uploading-images page
