I have started piecing together a final narrative and working on final ‘presentation’ documents for House One in anticipation of the next phase of my career. It would be nice to have a few finished pieces to share. That being said, here is some compelling source material in the form of the plan book version of House One which the hider surely poached.

i was trying to come up with a way to produce a ‘final’ plan for house one to use in our retrospective. instead of just tacking up the drafted plan i thought it would be more useful to tell a little bit of a story with it. i produced a plan-book floor plan for a regular house that the hider uses as his point of departure for house one. i have already drawn the hider plan by hand on graph paper and i am going to blow up the plan-book drawing and put it behind the hider’s work with some sketches and cogitating to illustrate ‘his’ process.

i hope you know i am not actively excluding you. i can tell you what my thought is for wrapping up house one.
my notion is that the materials are all part of a criminal investigation into the hider. some of the materials are evidence that was collected proving that the hider had concocted this scheme to design, build, and lure the family to live in this home. other materials are investigatory pieces that the police or DA have put together to flesh out the case such as photos of the house and perhaps models of some of the rooms.
evidence: original plan-book page that hider tore out of a magazine to base his hider house on; notes and sketches for transforming the house design, photos taken by the hider through the peepholes in the rooms for his own ‘files’; ‘final’ plan drawings that consist of a photocopy enlarged plan from the magazine, some sketches, and a final hand-drawn plan on graph paper, all overlayed; notes about climbing roof research (osha); knotty pine pricing quotes; correspondence with keri morton…
investigation: models of a few rooms (these will be used to produce the hider’s ‘photos’ as well); photos of the house (renderings/photocollage); background check on the hider.
is there any of that you think you could get into? renderings? fodder stuff? i have already done one of the plan drawings and am ready to get started on the physical models.

i guess the models are something that the da’s office would create to present in court?
i’m interested in the stuff that the hider produced before construction. is it his on work for something he would build himself, or sketches that he would show his ‘architect’, w/ his hider space marked ‘humidor’ or ‘privy’?

i assumed the hider was maybe a contractor. so i thought they could be sketches he used to puzzle through the changes to the found plan and maybe some features he wanted to work into the design. maybe some scarpaesque haywire analytiques? or you could just scan some pages from your sketchbook?

ok, now i understand the plan at the top of this page. your plan is to draw the original book, then the layer of sketches, then the final dwg’s by the da’s office? the hider cold have some details trying to ‘work through’ things like the darkroom door and the alpine window – i guess we already have that.
maybe i can have him trying to learn now a double helix stair section is drawn, since i don’t know myself.

that is correct. i think any number of sketches could be used. maybe a sketchbook could be entered in as evidence but couldnt be opened? or it could be the sketchbook i wrote plats in which could be picked up but wouldnt be reviewed due to boredom, etc.
you could make the plan-book page too? i think it should have a sweet pen-and-ink sketch of the house.

is rhino the same as max? that’s what i know how to use, barely.

illustrator has a pen and ink livetrace setting. i dont think it is very adept though. rhino≠max.

during my transatlantic flight i had the chance to watch ‘a fish called wanda’ 5 times and to think about your instructions for creating a proposal for yaf. it pertains to house one in this sense: when trying to explain how the work.group got involved with busey’s work, rather than have us created the da’s case work, how ’bout we say that we were hired by the morton family (or the family who moved in after mortons were all killed), to renovate the house after the spaces were discovered. so we have the hider’s stash of work, and our dwgs are actually as-builts. or maybe the da asks us to help w/ the case.
it would be cool if we could put it on the yaf wall with some ambiguity over whether it really happened. i don’t know how this would fit in with the 31 houses set.

did you fake the blown up plan in ps, or did you print them then copy/enlarge/scan? if you actually have letter size prints that you copy/scanned, could you send a pdf of each page to my gmail acc’t please?

the renovation idea is cool. i like that maybe we discovered the oddities of the house. do you think the drawings and photos should not then be detritus found in the hider’s lair?

i think we could still have his sketches or models(?) as part of the work; maybe we found it stashed in a hidey-hole. we would use his notes/sketches as well as the as-built measurements our intern takes. i presume that there would be incongruities w/ his work; either it is insane, or even w/ the drawings there are spaces we can’t find.

a little of both actually. i blew up a letter size plan 200% and then copied that a bunch of times. then i scanned the seventh generation copies and ‘distressed’ them. i found a set of ‘bad photocopy’ brushes but i couldnt get my ps to recognize them.
i have a psd with all of the tiles of the above drawing still isolated on layers already in my gmail. i will forward it to your ass.

lacking only a floor now.
i did a ‘quick’ study for a terrazzo floor. this little section took me about 30 minutes. i don’t know if i will be able to do the whole floor. maybe i should buy the rug and just do the exposed area of the floor in terrazzo.

Hmmm. I already made night versions of those. I was asking if you could manipulate the images to make them look like poorly printed black and white photos. I guess this is one of the benefits of our unhinged collaboration!

my point in the earlier comments when asking for the color photographs was that the solarization or wtf you did for your ‘night versions’ wasn’t doing it. i don’t know why they have to look poorly printed anyway (something to do w/ crime scene photos?), but this is your baby, so i will work w/ what i have!

i can help w/ the 1st and 3d and 6th. i don’t know about the junk mail, though, won’t it have ‘our’ name and address on it?
are the polaroids meant to be photos that the hider has taken through the peepholes?
perhaps there can be some photos of the family that he has swiped from their albums and inserted himself into.
also, birthday candles, diary (w/ pages altered to include himself), souvenirs from their vacations (mardi gras beads, maoz wrappers, etc)

i am prepared to use some cotton swabs. i was thinking i might bundle the junk mail with an elastic and in some way conceal the top address. i think the polaroids would be through a peephole, yes. i will probably use the one in the cabinet that i used for the initial model studies. maybe i can just hold up pictures on the other side; not sure.
i wonder where we could find a series of family photos of the same family? that is a good idea. whose face is used for the hider? busey?

maybe some fools have put their family photos on flickr w/ a creative commons license? i have a few yearbook photos i have picked off the street, but no consistent pix of the same people.
can we just put a diary in a bag, w/o having to write the pages? or just have a few loose leaves (leafs?); i don’t want to write 1000 livejournalish pages!
other items stolen: birthday/holiday cards. cards to the family that have been re-addressed to hider, and cards to family that have had hider’s signature appended.

first of all, it was a power muffin, not a common bran muffin. secondly, that was like 2 years ago, before the work.group bike tour de stone mountain.
i brought cupcakes for guys’ movie night on a different occasion, but you hid them in the back of the fridge so sean couldn’t have any; i guess you are still covering that up!

you point out something that has been concerning me. these sacks that contain multiple items obviously are not ideal for showcasing each component. i wonder if we should provide rubber gloves or tweezers for thrillseekers to rifle the bags with.
perhaps it is just the appearance of these categorized items in bulk that is important and not the features of each individually.

i think your last point is accurate; i doubt people will read each individual birthday card and muse over what the weather was like during the party or whether chocolate or red velvet cake was served. i think the interest will be on the hider rolling around naked with these items, not the items themselves.
