Abe Vigoda is alive

-ashley

im not sure i trust that site any more.

-john

corey haim is possibly already dead?

-ashley

please note that i will be moving all lists to the top of the page so i dont have to sort through all the posts to find the lists.

-john

matt pointed out to me that he has abe vigoda as a wild card and i have him for #1. by ashley’s arcane scoring system matt will get 11 points and i will get one when ‘fish’ dies. i would like to suggest that once everyone has their lists up we actually vet and rank the people accordingly as a group. or just agree that every person is worth 1 point.

-john

everyone isn’t worth 1pt. i think the way it is supposed to work is that the fewer people who have someone, the more points the person is worth. since we have so few players, it is rare that anyone over laps; it seems unfair to give the same amount of points for picking someone on the verge of death, like jack nicholson, the same score as hannah montana.

-ashley
please note that i will be moving all lists to the top of the page so i dont have to sort through all the posts to find the lists.
sounds like a way for you to cheat. again.

-ashley

regarding wildcards, i don’t think they should be worth 11 points; if that is the case, they should just be #11. i think for the wild cards to be ‘fun’, they should be a blow out… for example, if your wildcard dies, then you automatically win - even if no one else on your list dies. the only way you can beat someone whose wildcard dies would be if all 10 of your list die.
that is an awesome system.

-ashley

i think the way it is supposed to work is that the fewer people who have someone, the more points the person is worth.

so once everyone posts lists we will rate them? should we have a cut-off date? february 10th at midnight?

-john
ok, so the more people who choose the person, the less they are worth? i believe you should be rewarded for picking people that no one else considered. having said that, ariel sharon should not be worth shit!

-ashley

ariel sharon should not be worth shit!

fuck you, im the only one wots got im!

-john

calling that one is like calling snow in buffalo next winter!
hey, everyone! let’s all give jt a penny if it rains in london this year!

-ashley

are you kidding me!? he has been on my list for 3 years and still he lives! life is good in israel!

-john

hmm

Abe Vigoda is alive

-ashley

he is a russian jew, i dont think they have it as good?

jx, where is your list, mr. ‘i know the future but didnt get any points last year’?

-john

i already wrote it, but i guess i have until tomorrow night to post it. this year i am playing strategically, no more wish lists!

-ashley

you think i want el maestro to die!?

-john

it is offensive that you are considering the possibility

-ashley

i didnt know you liked legorreta so much!

-john

gross.

-ashley

john. you can rank the victims now, john.

-ashley

no fucking way is andy rooney a wildcard. i demand you change it before i rank corpses.

-john

play it as it lays!!

-ashley

if that is the case then the wild card can not be winner take all, he is in the top 10 oldest of the list.

-john

what can i say?
the rules are established.
don’t try to handicap me b/c you made your list before understanding the implications of your own rules!

-ashley

scoring
starting with a total of 10 points per corpse:

age deductions:
21-40: -0
41-60: -1
61-80: -2
81-100: -3

ailment deductions:
vegetative: -2
terminal illness: -2
degenerative disease: -1

popularity deductions:
-1 point per duplicate

-john

you made the rules after i made my list.

-john

i will do the final tally once you man up. i will also not accept abe vigoda as matt leach’s wild card.

-john
you made the rules after i made my list.
i was happy w/ each of us ranking our own, but you insisted on ramming some form of communal ranking process down our throats.

-ashley
scoring
starting with a total of 10 points per corpse:
i guess we will need to pull out our slide rules every time someone kicks it.

-ashley
i will do the final tally once you man up. i will also not accept abe vigoda as matt leach’s wild card.
man up? you are the one whiiiinnnin’ b/c i made more strategic choices than you did. take it like a man!

-ashley

i am figuring out all the scores.

the work.group

-john

hm

-ashley

ok, we’re straight.

-john

you better light candles to vigoda and rooney every night, b/c i think you are going to get pwnd!!! this year.

-ashley

it is fair that you know that i revisited my list once you set down the rules here.

-john

the work.group

you did that after the midnight deadline, cheater!

-ashley

whatever, i am in alabama tonight.

-john

i knew to take screen shots, b/c you change your list every year. what kind of ‘game’ is this where jt gets to change his list and make demands on who we put on our pool. he is only watching the game…controlling it!

-ashley

i am done trying to reveal your hypocrisy, it is like giving the invisible man a mirror. please let me know if you have questions about the scores i ascribe to your folks.

-john

it is like giving the invisible man a mirror

???

i’m not worried about the scores. i’m sure that wtf ever your scoring system does is fine - and results in me losing regardless of 2008 deaths.

-ashley

???

you cant see shit!

-john

weaver appears to have the highest possible point total. ashley has the lowest, but i am assuming all of those codgers will die within the next 10 days…

-john

jx! i am accepting your baroque methods of scoring, your changing your list after the deadlines, and your refusal to get that suspiria girl’s number for me…what more do you want from me?!

-ashley
weaver appears to have the highest possible point total. ashley has the lowest,
omg!! what a fucking surprise!!

-ashley

you made the rules, slick!

-john

john claims: you made the rules, slick!

where are you getting that from? everyone can see that that isn’t true.

-ashley

i quit.

-john

pwn3d!!!

-ashley
i quit.
you should put your list back up; otherwise, if the master dies this year, we will never hear the end of it.

-ashley

i erased it.

-john

the work.group
i guess we will just use this.

-ashley

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Roy Scheider, the actor best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie “Jaws,” has died. He was 75.

R.I.P. Detective Russo!

-ashley

wow!

-john

i missed this one: He declared: “Invincibility is irreversibly established in the world. My work is done. My designated duty to Guru Dev is fulfilled.” On February 5th, the Maharishi passed away in a yoga position.

r.i.p. sexy sadie!

-john

sexy sadie

how curious!

-ashley

what have you done?!

-john

wake me when polythene pam buys it.

-ashley

I change my wild card to pete rose.

-Matt
I change my wild card to pete rose.
done. have fun getting whined at by ashley.

-john

ooh! ooh! there is actually a chance that pete rose might die! that is so unfair. you must change your wild card to jaden smith or that girl who played ‘little miss sunshine’

-ashley

hey, can I switch out my wildcard?
I’d like to replace Nick Nolte with Buckhead Public Library.

http://www.ajc.com/search/content/metro/stories/2008/02/10/library_0211.html

-gray

Buckhead Public Library.

whoa!

-ashley

check out this thinker:

“That library, to my way of thinking, was an abortion the day it was dedicated,” Fulton County Commissioner Tom Lowe said. “I am a lover of art. I can even stand abstract art. But God darn, who in the world would build something like that? There ain’t no damn artistic value to that library.”

are these the same geniuses that want to move the state borders to include some other states’ water since you used up all of your own? i used to ‘love’ georgia, but i confess now that y’all are all a bunch of nimrods.

-ashley

it really is a travesty. Why can’t they see the value in an historically, texturally, and visually rich ‘hood.

Its fucking stupid, and mixed use buildings will not save the world. neither will developers.

-Matt

this is rich:

Buckhead Avenue, he said, will become a retail destination and the current library is “kind of a gap in the experience.”

the good lord should forbid that the retail experience is interrupted!

An Irish pub and an upscale boutique are slated to be built on two sides of the library land, and another high-end shop is planned for across the street.

losers.

-ashley

i can’t wait until i get to work on the streetscape protion of the redevelopment project!
as a footnote, the other msem bldg that has been razed in atlanta, the one at emory, is the site of a current project i am working on. awesome! at this rate, i will personally be bulldozing kron’s home to make way for a mixed use tower.

-gray

My favorite quote is the boastful chest pounding predicting “rent rates unheard of in buckhead”

-Matt

Charles Loudermilk, the founder of Aaron Rents, agreed. “I see it from my window. I think it’s ugly,” Loudermilk said. “I like brick and limestone, stuff that looks like quality.”

I have always considered aaron rents a beacon of quality, an example to us all… doucherocket…

-john

as the moderator, i suggest we lose the wildcards, unless i am allowed to stipulate that the person has to be under 30 and not in any newsworthy deathspirals.

-john

buckheadlibrary

fortunately, the library was captured by a worker on paper, 16 years before its destruction.

-ashley

you could rearrange the lists and place the highest potential score candidate in the wild card slot.

-Matt

the library was captured

the seeds of genius!

-john
you could rearrange the lists and place the highest potential score candidate in the wild card slot.
is this acceptable to swimmers in the dead pool?

-john
is this acceptable to swimmers in the dead pool?
ok?

-ashley

good question ashley. Aren’t all of your picks worth the same amount?

-Matt

huh! well, i guess i will have to stick w/ andy rooney.

-ashley

as two time defending champion of the dead pool, and recipient of nary one “prize” for said victories, i find it assinine that there is all this bitching about “rules”. death hath no rules! may the bodycount decide our fates!

-gray

PARIS - Alain Robbe-Grillet, an avant-garde author who dispensed with conventional storytelling as a pioneer of the postwar “new novel” movement in France, died Monday. He was 85.

hail!

-ashley

indeed!

now the dark night and the deafening racket of the crickets again engulf the garden and the veranda, all around the house.

the work.group

-john

Ariel Sharon celebrated his 80th in a coma. Pour one down the tracheotomy tube for a vegetated brotha.

-matt

manischewitz on me!

-john

Author and conservative commentator William F. Buckley Jr. has died at age 82.

-ashley

wow, did you peep the gore vidal video that comes up below that one after it plays? depressing.

-john

ugh. are you referring to the ali g clip?

-ashley

yes. vidal should have taken the andy rooney approach and called him an imbecile.

-john

andy rooney approach

i missed that one.

gvidal wrote ‘the city and the pillar’ and ‘myra breckinridge’.
sbcohen tricks people into saying something racist and gets old people to use young folks’ jargon.
advantage: vidal

-ashley

that doesnt make it any less sad for me.

-john

it is sad that he is an age-ravaged slug, but from clips i’ve seen/heard, gv has a sense of humor regarding his own arrogance; it is possible that he is knowingly playing along with the dipshit host. or not.

-ashley

please cease and desist your insults of ali g.
yes, he tricks people into saying racist things, but he does so with an english accent thereby elevating him above your scrutiny.

respect.

-gray

more on buckley:

“He was found at his desk in the study…”

lucky.

-ashley

the library board voted not to sell the buckhead library property. im sure the county commissioners can always go over their heads.

-john

boyd coddington died today at age 63.
he built hot-rods.
big ups.

-gray

jt: “the library board voted not to sell the buckhead library property.”

the ‘conservative’ u.s. supreme court has ruled that the gov’t can seize property in the name of private business when it’s deemed best for the public. i imagine that you won’t need to grease too many palms to convince fulton county that it is in the public interest to have more ‘irish pubs’ and less public libraries in buckhead.

actually, is it fulton county who decides that or the city of atlanta?

-ashley

fulton county. and they have leveled all of the sparkling nightlife of buckhead, the plan is to build high-end retail and office space, you know, for the kids.

-john

what about the buckhead art cinema? is it still intact?
i don’t think i’ve been to buckhead since before my sci-arc period. i don’t recall visiting during my lost year.

-ashley

ive been to veggieland a couple of times, but i access it from piedmont, so i dont know about the porno theater. my guess is that it is gone.

-john

you dont call that year ‘the year that jt made me lose’?

-john

if i added up all the time you took from me with your ‘advice’, it would be much more than a year.

-ashley

are you quitting the work.group?!

-john

no! i just wonder where you find some of the advice you give me: move to atlanta, move to nyc, move to philadelphia, choose mangurian as your adviser, cast your fate w/ postbaroque, don’t get involved w/ the mr+d girls.

-ashley

sounds like quite an adventure youve had!

-john

“you will be taken more seriously if you grow your ‘beard’ out for thesis”
-jt

-ashley

you started growing that the summer mm lived there and you all were ignoring me!

-john

ha! i remember what you were up to that summer!!

-ashley

i was about to end up on dead pool ‘00.

-john

RIP co-star with Patrick Swayze in the cinematic tour-de-force that is Roadhouse…Jeff Healey. May your sight be restored in heaven Music Man.

-gray

Another death to report…
Mike Conley from M.I.A. has also died. He’s “sorta famous”(?).

-gray

r.i.p. gary gygax - the nerd who invented dungeons and dragons. i’m not sure if he died in his parent’s basement or not, but one can only assume.

-gray

From all the clerics and mages here at th.wrk.grp, RIP Gary Gygax!!! May your charisma and hit-points continue to accrue!

-john

i received a notice that gray posted something in the dead pool, but i don’t see it now? was someone resurrected?

-ashley
jt: From all the clerics and mages here at th.wrk.grp, RIP Gary Gygax!!! May your charisma and hit-points continue to accrue!
-ashley

i received a notice that gray posted something in the dead pool, but i don’t see it now? was someone resurrected?

never mind. i found it in the spam folder and fished it out - it is posted in place.

-ashley

leave it in spam, it neglected to show the reverence that the all-time dm deserved.

-john

hey john!
do you remember when that coworker told you that tornadoes did not occur in cities?

-ashley

no! who was it? i have a hotel downtown to sell them. ps… my office got pwnt.

-john

some guy at your office was saying that tornadoes did not hit skyscrapers; i sent my pix of ft worth to you so you could school him.

my office got pwnt.

seriously? the one in decatur or the one designed by msme?
i hope the buckhead library is ok.

-ashley

not a fucking 3d model!

-ashley

not a fucking 3d model!

wtf is this doing here? my msme office got trashed… the studio is fine.

-john

hmm, those modules are supposed to be in house one mechanics

msme office got trashed

pix?

-ashley

can you move them? i will try to get some downtown carnage shots on monday.

-john

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - Arthur C. Clarke, a visionary science fiction writer who won worldwide acclaim with more than 100 books on space, science and the future, died Wednesday in his adopted home of Sri Lanka, an aide said. He was 90.

hail!

-ashley

rip nader khalili

-john

nader khalili

lame.

r.i.p.

-ashley

he was lame or its lame that he dead?

in brighter news, the county commissioners voted yesterday to spare the buckhead library.

-john

did that dude design luke skywalker’s crib? dope.

-gray

lame that he is dead; he was the only person at sci-arc who wasn’t ‘folding’ plastic floor plates

-ashley

i can also credit him with removing camper jim from the premises for significant lengths of time.

-john

r.i.p. klaus dinger, drummer for kraftwerk and neu! of heart failure just before his 62nd birthday.

teutonic hails.

-gray

i think he played on ’sonar blowjob.’

-john

Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing “Ben-Hur” and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the ’50s and ’60s, has died. He was 84.

score 7pts for matt.

“take your stinking paws off of me, you damn dirty ape!!”

-ashley

i watched ‘planet of the apes’ on friday night! eerie!

-john

was it on spike tv?

-ashley

amctv.com

-john

was it right after a harrison ford movie? i saw ‘witness’ and ‘planet of the apes’ and part of one of the hford/tclancy movies last weekend…the one where he cusses.

-ashley

i dont think so. they show ‘horror’ movies on friday nights. it was part of that.

-john

curious; i know i watched it friday or saturday; does ted turner own amc? if so, they probably played the same 3 movies 15 times in a row.

-ashley

i dont know who owns it. i dont think it is the ted. however, they do recycle their movies. unfortunately they dont show ‘puppetmaster’ nearly as much as i would like.

-john

Abe Vigoda is alive

-ashley

r.i.p. ozzie cadena, jazz musician, but more importantly father of dez cadena, member of the greatest band of all time.

-gray

bob rauschenberg is dead. lame.

-john

Dick Martin, the zany half of the comedy team whose “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In” took television by storm in the 1960s, making stars of Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin and creating such national catch-phrases as “Sock it to me!” has died. He was 86.

-ashley

Academy Award-winning director Sydney Pollack has died. He was 73. Pollack’s biggest success was the 1985 film “Out of Africa” starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep which won Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture.

-ashley

i guess i am a cretin, all i cared about was his role in ‘eyes wide shut.’

-john

how dare they mention sydney pollack without bigging up tootsie!

oh yeah…I am back.

-gray

where have you been?

-john

i’ve been working on bullshit. plus you two have been doing some sort of “serious” work, so i’ve kept out of it.
missed you at the sonn av krusher show this past weekend. nobody died though, so i suppose i shouldn’t mention that on this thread.

-gray

well, for the first time this season, i believe i am truly upset by a death…

harvey korman dead at age 81

goodnight funny man.

-gray

i guess you are forgetting that robbe-grillet died!

-john

uh, unless your ass is on the Carol Burnett show…chances are I don;t give a what when you die.

-gray

i made a cameo on “mama’s family.” will you cry at my funeral?

-john

i will be a pallbearer at your funeral, but as custom would dictate, I am sure you would want no tears, only norse folk tales. that i will do.

-gray

Bo Diddley dies at home today. For the second time in a week, I am moved my a passing.

That being said, he was not on my list…so fuck it.

-gray

someone actually important to the work.group canon has passed away. Mel Ferrer, actor-director age 90, dies.

the work.group

-john

Tim Russert, host of Meet The Press dies today of a heart attack at age 58. Meanwhile, Andy Rooney takes stock of desk…again.

# RIP: Ulysses solar probe coming to end soon

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The Ulysses solar probe will cease operations around July 1 after nearly 18 years in outer space, NASA announced Thursday.

why wait two weeks? they should cease operations on monday!

-ashley

-john

Special-effects maestro Stan Winston dies at 62

Among the creations to come out of the Stan Winston Studio: the menacing, 14-foot-tall Alien Queen in “Aliens,” the extraterrestrial jungle creature in “Predator,” the futuristic cyborg assassins in the “Terminator” movies, and the life-size dinosaurs in the ” Jurassic Park” movies, which included a frightening life-size Tyrannosaurus rex. -john

aawwhooooooooooooooooooooooollll!

-ashley

-john

it’s the guy w/ the huge hands.

-ashley

“Here’s something you don’t hear too often…’Mom, mom I got a big date tonight. Can I borrow a French tickler from you?’”

Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs, dirty words and the demise of humanity, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday. He was 71.

“…They got a lot of company in this country. There’s a lot of groups, a lot of institutions in this country want to control your language. Tell you what you can say and what you can’t say. Government wants to tell you some things you can’t say because it’s against the law. Well you can’t say this because it’s against the regulation. Well here’s something you can’t say because it’s a secret. “You can’t tell him that, because he’s not clear to know that.” Government wants to control information and control language, because that’s the way you control thought.”

“…and some of this stuff is just silly, we all know that, like on the airlines, they say want to pre-board. Well, what the hell is pre-board, what does that mean? To get on before you get on?”

R.I.P.

-ashley

‘dead pool 2008′ might not be the best place to mention this, but we were talking about the buckhead library in this post, so i will do it. did you catch mike gamble on npr this morning, dissing the ‘atlanta millenium gate’? kudos!

-ashley

speaking of the bh library, you might need to add breuer’s central library to your list. the library board is considering moving the central library… probably to alpharetta…

also:

Former Senator Jesse Helms Is Dead at 86, the Jesse Helms Research Center Says

7 points for the beez.

-john

is that a joke? there is a center to research whether or not helms is alive?

-ashley

i dont know? there seems to be one for abe vigoda:

Abe Vigoda is alive

curses!!!

-john

f, i made the claim this week that jørn utzon was dead, forgetting that he is on my list - and alive.
