this friday…the 13th, the work.group makes a rare descent from its cork-lined
cockloft for a public appearance at the city kitties 4th annual art auction fundraiser. this year, the work.group has put up for auction two hot pieces: Harlistan, 1938 and mmm-sections #101.

here is a rehash of earlier years’ posts, w/ the time and date updated:

all the cash you’ll put down for these works will go towards City Kitties’ stated mission: “City Kitties is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, no-kill, volunteer-run rescue dedicated to helping stray cats in West Philadelphia.” if you can’t make it to bid on the night of the auction, city kitties are more than happy to accept donations anytime of the year; visit their site for more information on donations and to find a cool urban cat who is looking to adopt a family.

new work?

perfect (movies)

the work.group share an affinity for designating certain works as ‘perfect.’ i would enjoy sorting through some of these in various genres. probably the easiest is movies. feel free to argue with any that should not be canonized. this effort should pull no punches, nor should it find shame in the pettiness of a particular gripe. i think 2001 is a fantastic, medium-defying, masterwork. but that fetus at the end seems out of place and aesthetically inappropriate to me. obviously it was the image the master wanted to use to tell the story and probably was out of place for a reason. but it just seems hamfisted after all the brilliance that precedes it that i just have to close my eyes and see blackness for the last refrain of zarathustra. hence, it isnt a perfect movie.

Public Appearance: Hider-in-the-House House at SPSU

Many years ago, the work.group was compelled to create 31 houses in 31 frenzied days. The houses were sent to exhibitions across the United States; when the tour reached Philadelphia a young woman in the crowd came forward. She had grown up in one of these houses. Her family still owned the house in Downey, CA, and resided there with one small modification: there was no longer a strange man living in the walls.

This Friday evening, August 27, 2010 at Southern Polytechnic State University in Atlanta, GA the work.group will present their body of research on the serendipitous overlap of design’s impossibilities with the implausibilities of human depravity. The Atlanta Young Architects Forum’s Summer Salon hosts the REAL Hider-in-the-House House from 7PM-9PM.

it is the time of year where you have the rare chance to own a physical piece of work from the work.group just by paying for it — ‘rare’ as usually we are ‘too proud’ to put a price on work, and/or we are begging to just give it away. bring your bankroll to Studio 43 34 in West Philadelphia this Friday (5/28) and fork it over to benefit Philadelphia’s City Kitties cat rescue.

if you can not make it to Philadelphia that night, you can have your bid placed by proxy by a member of the work.group who will be present. send your maximum bid to ‘work -at- sisyphean.com’ or, the contact form here. please send bid before 6pm on the 28th of May.

the piece up for auction, ‘m. tabby 1872′ is shown above, printed in full (2) colours and framed in the finest composite de-dumpstered from a baltimore avenue frat house.

Filing Nomenclature

This may not be as fascinating as our race with Houser Walker to release a holiday card but I would like to propose that the work.group move into the 1990s with an internal digital filing nomenclature apparatus. Information would include date, project, contents, etc. Any thoughts? Did you ask me to do this six years ago?

for those of you in the georgia region you are hereby on notice to make your way to atlanta and the georgia tech campus on the evening of monday november 23rd to get it going with perry kulper, live and large [more info] at the college of architecture for a night of turbo-charged insight and mind-altering cultural mash-ups. the show is on the road in the auditorium at 6pm; i’ll be the one with a macaw on my shoulder.
