i pronounce it with four (4) syllables, but i reckoned that the majority of our fans have a merely objective understanding of that place, and therefore pronounce it with five (5). i would rather field your attempts to mock me as uncultured than to receive dozens of emails stating that i miscounted.

also, new orleans has two (2) syllables.

hmmm…

i guess that popular conception of the hick pronounciation would be ‘nawlins’, however, i can also see ‘new orleens’ being lumped in that category. ‘new orlins’ is presumably the most widely used pronounciation, whilst there are some of us who would argue that it has 4 syllables, as in ‘new or-lee-ans’.

dont we have some work to be doing?
