house 29 - weather house +
11h15m37 / 29.Jan.2008
worker: john

gordon matta-clark didn’t die from pancreatic cancer, he had consumption. in his last days he moved to this stone house in the monument valley to convalesce. this indexical monument was his last work; it is still being created.

hails to wikipedia: A weather house is a folk art device in the shape of a small German or Alpine chalet that indicates the weather. A typical weather house has two doors and two automata, side by side. The left side has a girl or woman, the right side a boy or man. The female figure comes out of the house when the weather is sunny and dry, while the male comes out to indicate rain.

In fact, a weather house functions as a hygrometer embellished by folk art. The male and female figures ride on a balance bar, which is suspended by a piece of catgut or hair. The gut relaxes or shrinks based on the humidity in the surrounding air, relaxing when the air is wet and tensing when the air is dry. This action swings one figure or the other out of the house depending on the humidity.

eastern mass 01

here’s the section through what i guess is the ‘eastern’ landmass; you can see the u-boat, chocolate tower, and bird houses. the climbing mass is beyond.

martyr tower bw

i just realized that i had a zeppelin tethered in this garden as well. oops. this is a vignette from down in the bottom of the west cofferdam park. the martyrs tower looms above. birds fly in and out through the portals on the right at low tide (somehow they keep water out at high tide) and hang in the rookery on the left. the garden slopes upward from the bottom of the park to the martyrs tower.

another one bites the marble dust +

The memorial in Shanksville, Pa., will also include pedestrian trails and a roadway leading to a visitor center and the actual crash site, which will be surrounded by a crescent of maple trees. The victims’ names will be inscribed on a white marble wall.

state park meets graveyard? ill bet the lobby is so strong that even if you won without a marble headstone the families would push to get one. i personally would not want to go and see the name of my loved one listed there, i would know they died there, and i wouldnt feel it was so important to get some second hand sympathy from people who did not even know them. i guess most americans are more interested in public displays of grief, and write texts like ‘lets roll’ to deal with their loss.

lets roll on to “a theory of roosevelt value

although we here at the work.group have a certain disdain for the committee design of the new world trade center site, any work libeskind has done that wasnt tech-pen on mylar, and the fact that the grouchy grad student from gtech who used to scowl at people in the computer lab won the commission for the memorial, we also cannot help but chuckle at the spectacle made by dtrump yesterday with ‘his’ design for the site. sure, the current design might be ‘crap’, but not because it doesn’t look like what was there before and not because it doesn’t have assboats of leaseable office space (which you can be sure as shit it does). we can’t help but wonder what trump thought of the twin towers when they were first built and lambasted by the public as being heartless and abstract. if you want to reach back into the vaults for a design, may we suggest this or this. also congratulations should be bestowed upon ‘architect’ ‘ken gardner’ for being the biggest hack since this kid. your model shop far exceeds your vision, my man; you came up with the same thing every reactionary toby keith fan proposed, 3.5 years later than them. see the rest of mr. gardner’s competition here.

it is for the best that .mil did not have the vision to choose our memorial, as, when they projekt was taken out of our hands and given to a committee, we would have had to see a horrible font plastered across our work. i hope the 184 victims don’t mind having a personal memorial on which people put their asses.

we send our regrets to the friends, families, and other suffering humans who have been insulted and shortchanged by the mistakes made by the sightless jury assembled by .mil.

stage1 +

the term “final” has been replaced by “stage 1″,
which will put the addition of the “stage 2″ work in context,
once we get the go ahead from .mil

i also added some light to “tines view” and “tendrils” in the stage 1 images,
undermining the true representation of what was actually in the stage 1 submissions..

if you can think of better image titles than the ones used,
let a.m. know

transform…and roll out! +

upon viewing a large rendered cad plan, it seems like there are some discrepancies between your plan and mine, re:tine fold, side walk leading to conch ramp. hopefully general riley and crew won”t give as much of a shit about this piece as one or more of us do.

shading from spires on plan look tight. does the plan of pool clearly represent water?

minor issues…please send me our awards + accolades.

please peep out the section “_knoll/version beverly_”. after doing so, please let me know:

1) any clear mistakes, like “i can see through a hole in the conch”
2) any representation thoughts like “the spires are too thin”
3) your “favorite views”
4) any other views you would like to see.
